My Narnia

100 years of winter.
Perhaps I cannot ever know what that means.
I'm no soldier, no brave warrior.
No heroes here.
No Deep Magic.
I barely look beyond my own bubble, my safety net.
I've traveled far,
But have taken lesser journeys within myself.
I could go so much farther.
I'm still frozen.
The false queen still rules for now.
I feel her icy fingers upon me.
And though I deeply loathe her,
I fear the spring to come even more.
Even though I know it's inevitable,
I am still afraid.
I don't know Spring.
I have seen only glimpses of warmth.
And I cling to half-forgotten memories of sunny green days.
Winter will not last forever.
But how does one prepare to meet a lion?
C.S. Lewis was a genius. There's no two ways about it. After watching the little movie documentary they made about him in the extras of The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, I couldn't help thinking about the incredible journey he made.

After a while I realized that we all have our own journeys, our own Narnias, so to speak. I have a lot of real life worries that are distracting me from doing what I love. I know I will soon have to make some incredibly drastic changes in my life, and even though I know they will all be good things, I am terrified.

Change has been the one constant in my life that I have always been afraid of, and I admit that freely and with shame. After all, Aslan allowed and even expected the children to go to war with him. Lewis never hid the truth: life can be very cold and ugly. But winter never lasts forever.
