And I stand and weep for those
who have to live with second-best.

Sometimes my hammer
thuds in warning and trepidation
Danger or trouble is near.

Other times it's a bass
A slow dance in sleep.
It drinks of life, so bittersweet.

Sometimes it leaves its tiny nest
it cries for the poor and forgotten
and hears even the devil confess.

Today, I dust off my mirror.
And I look.
Closer.

Someone has been wearing my face.
It's a mask but the mask is still my skin.
If I remove it I will tear it off.

It will hurt.
And I will bleed.

But I remember.
There is such a thing as good pain.

For a contest depicting a plus size heroine. I hope I got it in on time. ^^;

This is Eslyn, a young sage-in-training. Don't be fooled by her smug expression...she's about to blow herself up...again. ;P A character from my Thief story, which I still have kicking in the back of my mind. A bit darker than I originally intended, but oh well.
